48HOURS Victory

It had to happen eventually I guess. Our 48HOURS team, Fractured Radius, managed to win one this year!

In this, our sixth year making a film in 48 hours, we drew ‘Drama’ as our genre. After much discussion we came to the realisation that we had no choice, we had to make a serious film.

The End is the story of a desperate man with a drastic plan to win back his ex-girlfriend. Things don’t necessarily work as planned for him, and the film becomes something quite intense.

From over 200 teams in Auckland we made the top 12, which we then won to our absolute surprise. We were judged to have made the best film in Auckland in 2008, and now we are a finalist for the Grand Nation prize. Our film will be judged alongside around 8 others by a panel of international judges with all the films and the final result being broadcast on C4 at 8:30pm on July 3rd.

Amazing.

Congrats on getting best film in auckland. My mate’s team in Welly won the grand prize, Team Puppy Guts. My team (headed by my buddy Simon Heath) picked up the best animation prize – I was lead animator on it. Pretty crazy weekend, we had 27 people on the team and at one point we almost lost everything when someone ‘cut’ our project folder instead of ‘copying’ it! Scaaaary! But we made it on time… and consumed 88 cans of V.
