Between the PD170 and V1U I think I'd go with the V1U. It duplicates most of the PD170's features, but also offers HD (in the form of HDV) which could be beneficial looking ahead.

HDV is a pretty impressive format. It can be a pain in some respects, but it provides surprisingly good results given the compression.

I am trying to make a decision in upgrading and adding a new video camera for my work (event DV and maybe docs in the future).

I have read so much about the Sony's vs Panasonic my head is spinning.

The cameras with the P2 cards or SxS cards are out of my range and in editing, I cower at the thought of having to deal with this new technology. I am comfortable with my tapes.

So, I am looking at the Sony PD170 and the Sony V1U, but don't anticipate using the cumbersome to edit HD stuff yet.

Your thoughts?
'
I also appreciated the posting about the Panasonic Barry Green promotional seminar
